Scouting: We have several scout troops meeting
in our facility. There are cub scouts, boy scouts, girl scouts,
Jr. Girl Scouts and Brownies all meeting within our facility
throughout the week.
Women's Group: The United Methodist Women
(UMW) group of Christ Church is very active
in its work on the mission front. With an active membership
level of about 30 women, the UMW raises funds that are used
for outreach ministries. Some of the groups supported by the
UMW are: The Utica Neighborhood; Westside Mission (Syracuse);
Red Bird Mission (Kentucky); Liberty Resources (Madison County);
Gateway Child Center (Buffalo); Linus Project; Health Kits
(UMCOR); School Kits; and other projects throughout the year.
The group meets monthly on the fourth (4th) Tuesday of each
month (exceot July and August). Special programs are presented
each month, and often times a new project may be presented
for support any month.
Men's Group: The men's group at Christ Church
is called the Tousley Woodworkers. The group
meets monthly (4th Saturday). Fellowship is the tune each
month with men gathering and sharing with each other while
having coffee and donuts. The men gathered compare notes on
the woodworking projects they work on at home, and then bring
them in to the Annual Fantasy Fair to sell.
Choir: Each Sunday at 9:00 AM members of
the choir gather in the music room to practice. The choir
presents special pieces each Sunday as part of the worship.
All are invited to join the choir on any given Sunday at the
time of rehearsal. No auditions are conducted!!
Sunday School: Sunday School for children
if offered each Sunday between September and May. Classes
are divided by school grade. We also have a Nursery
and Kindergarten Classes. There is an Adult
Sunday School class as well. Sunday School meets and begins
on Sunday mornings at 9:15 A.M.
Youth Group: We have a youth group that meets
on Sunday evenings at 7 PM. It is for youth in grade 7 through
12. In addition to discussions on current affairs and contemporary
times, the youth group does some nice things throughout the
year. Some of the activities of the youth group are: sledding/toboggan
party; miniature golf; attending sporting events (hockey,
College Basketball or football; baseball); and over night
camping. These are just a few of the things we have done.
In the spring of 2007, we are planning a trip to Boston. In
addition, the youth help with various programs throughout
the year, like: the soup suppers during Lent; sell desserts
on Super Sub Sunday; help on fundraising dinners; and other
activities that add to the personal and spiritual growth of
the individual.
Adult Study: On the first and third Fridays
of the month, we have an adult study group that meets for
discussion and study. Some topics have been: United Methodism;
Studying the Gospel of John. Some that we are planning is
a look at Al Gore's Book 'Inconvenient Truth'; a look at the
religion of Islam and what are it's beliefs; looking at some
of the Gnostic Gospels and other contemporary subjects. All
are invited to attend, we start at 6P.M. with a light supper
(pizza) and then enter into the topic for the evening. We
are completed by 8P.M.
Live Nativity: For more than 10 years, we
have sponsored a Live Nativity re-enactment on the second
weekend of December. It is held on Saturday and Sunday evening
at 6P.M. on that second weekend. It is free and open to the
public. It is a retelling of the story of the nativity with
live actors and animals on the front yard of the church. The
City of Sherrill provides bleachers for people to attend.
Hundreds of people plan the beginning of their Christmas season
around the Live Nativity presentation.
D.D.S.O. Service: On the fourth Wednesday
of the month (September-June) we have a special worship service
for area residents in group homes and others who live at home.
This is a worship experience designed for the folks that would
be in attendance. The time of the service is 6:30 PM. |
